Install Ubuntu Server
sudo apt-get install dkms build-essential linux-headers-generic lxde

LXDE mount:
sudo -s > cd /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/
vi org.freedesktop.udisks2.policy
:%s/\<auth_admin\>/yes/g
reboot

If vm, then mount the guest additions cd, and go to folder and run
cd /media/user/VBOX*
sh ./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run

LXDE autologin:
vi /etc/lxdm/default.conf
autologin=[USER]

desktop solid color #1A76ED
panel use system theme

Chrome:
wget -q -O – https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub | sudo apt-key add –
sudo sh -c ‘echo “deb http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/ stable main” > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/google-chrome.list’
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install google-chrome-stable -y

fix gui powerbutton:
echo “session required pam_systemd.so” >> /etc/pam.d/lxdm

Install ruby and chef with RVM
sudo apt-get install git-core curl
sudo \curl -L https://get.rvm.io | bash -s stable –ruby=1.9.3
source /usr/local/rvm/scripts/rvm
ruby -v, gem -v
rvm use 1.9.3 –default
gem install chef –no-ri –no-rdoc
chef-solo -v
— for rails, “export GEM_HOME=~/.gem” then “gem install rails”

Reboot
mkdir ~/.chef
mkdir ~/cookbooks
scp root@chef-server:/home/user/admin.pem ~/.chef
scp root@chef-server:/home/user/chef-validator.pem ~/.chef
knife configure -i
vi knife.rb >> add “cookbook_path ‘/home/user/cookbooks'”
knife cookbook create [CookbookName]

IDE
sudo apt-get install git libxml2-dev libxslt-dev libssl-dev
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/sublime-text-3
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install sublime-text-installer
wget https://sublime.wbond.net/Package%20Control.sublime-package
mv Package\ Control.sublime-package /home/[USER]/.config/sublime-text-3/Installed\ Packages/
Open ST3, Ctrl+Shift+P
‘install’ >> enter >> ‘chef’, select chef to install SublimeChef

apt-get remove xscreensaver

# apt-get install xrdp # xrdp doesn’t connect to local session…can’t use solutions

For rails,
Open file browser, go to Apps > Accessories > LXterminal (R+click, properties)
change command to [ lxterminal -e “bash -il” ]
sudo apt-get install nodejs # (need js for server)
